[Virtual Exclusive] PRO WORKSHOP (API): Learn to Maximize AI performance through Open-Source Computer Vision based Retail Solution
Tuesday November 12, 2024 11:00am - 11:50am PST
Neethu Elizabeth Simon, Intel, Senior Software Engineer
Antonio Martinez, Intel, Software Engineer
Brian McGinn, Intel, Software Solution Developer

Computer vision is revolutionizing various industries, and retail is no exception. While AI applications have many benefits, proof-of-concepts do not scale successfully into larger, implemented deployments. Retailers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and system integrators (SIs) require a good understanding of both hardware and software, maintaining AI models in production and having in-depth knowledge of costs involved in setting up and scaling these systems. Vision workloads are significantly larger, complex, undergo multiple stages of processing and therefore require systems to be architected, built, and deployed with several considerations. To make it easier for software developers to understand the optimizations and hardware capabilities, Automated Self-Checkout is developed- an open-source initiative for vision-enabled retail use cases, providing optimized code blocks, documentation, and performance benchmark data to enhance and accelerate developer’s product and project work.

This Open-Source project is a community developed project that provides the tools needed to launch and benchmark a computer vision-based workload on your local device.

In this hands-on workshop we will demonstrate how to utilize the automated-self-checkout solution to run Docker containers with open-source Intel OpenVINO toolkit and benchmark their performance on different hardware platforms. Through this interactive workshop, attendees will be able to setup and run the AI computer vision-based retail pipelines using this solution. Attendees will also gain knowledge on how to benchmark the workloads using this tool for obtaining maximum hardware performance.

[Virtual] PRO WORKSHOP (API): Using Vector Databases for Multimodal Search and Retrieval Augmented Generation
Tuesday November 12, 2024 1:00pm - 1:50pm PST
Zain Hasan, Together AI, Senior ML DevRel Engineer

Many real-world problems are inherently multimodal, from the communicative modalities humans use such as spoken language and gestures to the force, sensory, and visual sensors used in robotics. For machine learning models to address these problems and interact more naturally and wholistically with the world around them and ultimately be more general and powerful reasoning engines, we need them to understand data across all of its corresponding images, video, text, audio, and tactile representations.

In this talk, Zain Hasan will discuss how we can use open-source multimodal embedding models in conjunction with large generative multimodal models that can that can see, hear, read, and feel data(!), to perform cross-modal search(searching audio with images, videos with text etc.) and multimodal retrieval augmented generation (MM-RAG) at the billion-object scale with the help of open source vector databases. I will also demonstrate, with live code demos, how being able to perform this cross-modal retrieval in real-time can enables users to use LLMs that can reason over their enterprise multimodal data. This talk will revolve around how we can scale the usage of multimodal embedding and generative models in production.

[Virtual] PRO WORKSHOP (API): Powerful APIs for Building Microservices
Tuesday November 12, 2024 1:00pm - 1:50pm PST
Fernando Rocha, Diagrid, Customer Success Engineer

Starting a new project can be daunting. Choosing a technology for messaging, storage, workflows (and others) is a big commitment that takes time for developers. An ever increasing number of libraries, frameworks, cloud services and infrastructure lead to code sprawl, refactoring, lock-in, and security vulnerabilities, forcing developers to become experts of everything and ship code that’s hard to maintain. Switching between technologies is a risky, incredibly complex, and costly process. The flexibility is there, but it has a big price.

Meet Catalyst!

Powered by Dapr (Distributed Application Runtime), the 12th largest Cloud Native Computing Foundation project, Catalyst provides developers with APIs that remain consistent while the underlying infrastructure can be swapped out with little to no code changes. For teams using multiple programming languages or running in multiple clouds, Catalyst provides a single API for interacting with the underlying infrastructure, drastically reducing the amount of code and maintenance you’re on the hook for. Not only that, these APIs already embed best practices on security and reliability. If that's not amazing enough, Catalyst runs as-a-service, so there’s nothing to install or manage!

Join us to learn how Catalyst can add infrastructure flexibility, zero trust security, and fault tolerance to your distributed solutions with no extra development time!

[Virtual] PRO WORKSHOP (API): AI Needs APIs: Dynamic Data Access for Next-Gen Experiences
Tuesday November 12, 2024 2:00pm - 2:50pm PST
Andrew Carlson, Apollo GraphQL, Principal Field Architect

Gartner predicts that by 2026, more than 30% of the increase in demand for APIs will come from artificial intelligence and tools using large language models. API sprawl is a hazardous form of technical debt. It has hard costs from hosting and scaling a fleet of APIs, real security risks and an increased operational burden from the sheer number of APIs that platform engineering teams need to manage. With GraphQL, any client, even an LLM, can request exactly the data they need without over or under-fetching. And with federated GraphQL, the data can come from any underlying API.

Learn popular use cases for implementing the graph in an AI-driven experience, how organizations can safely adopt AI on a spectrum from low to high trust, and why GraphQL is an ideal API access layer for AI.

[Virtual] PRO WORKSHOP (CloudX): Building Guardrails for Generative AI: Security, Compliance, and Responsible Innovation
Tuesday November 12, 2024 2:00pm - 2:50pm PST
Ken Huang, DistributedApps, CEO and Chief AI Officer

This presentation introduces a comprehensive framework for testing and validating the security of generative AI applications, particularly those built on large language models (LLMs). Developed by Ken Huang (the Speaker) and World Digital Technology Academy's AI Safety, Trust, and Responsibility (STR) working group, the framework addresses the new attack surfaces and risks introduced by generative AI.

The standard covers the entire AI application stack, including base model selection, embedding and vector databases, prompt execution/inference, agentic behaviors, fine-tuning, response handling, and runtime security. For each layer, it outlines specific testing methods and expected outcomes to ensure AI applications behave securely and as designed throughout their lifecycle.

Key areas of focus include model compliance, data usage checks, API security, prompt injection testing, output validation, and privacy protection. The framework also addresses emerging challenges like agentic behaviors, where AI agents autonomously perform tasks based on predefined objectives.
